'What's the Background of it?'
After some years spent as a teacher, Michael trained for the ordained ministry and served in traditional church settings - urban, suburban and rural - before taking employment as a chaplain in mental health services. As part of his professional development he undertook further training and gained a post-graduate diploma in counselling and psychotherapy. In the course of that training he reflected in some depth upon the connections between what he was learning and his religious and spiritual beliefs and experiences. This book is based on further reflection upon that but also upon his actual experiences in the pastoral aspects of teaching, ministry, chaplaincy and counselling.
'Is it for me?'
While, for the sake of keeping it focused, the book is primarily related to pastoral care, it is of undoubted value in any setting where people are seeking to help others to heal or to grow as people The spirituality section is accessible and relevant irrespective to people of any religious beliefs or of none, as the way the various Bible passages are explored and related to the them of the book does not depend upon religious conviction.
However, in order to prevent the book being too diffuse it concentrates primarily upon the needs of pastoral workers in churches while still being accessible to that wider range of readers.
